Goa only state to log voter dip from draft rolls, down by 2.5%

Goa has emerged as the only Indian state to report a decrease in voter numbers, with a notable dip of 2.5% in its draft electoral rolls. The reduction, amounting to a loss of thousands of voters, has raised concerns among electoral authorities. The Vasco da Gama constituency experienced the highest number of deletions, losing approximately 11,657 voters, followed closely by the constituencies of Cortalim and Dabolim. Despite this decline, the final voter roll still reflects a significant population, comprising 511,436 males and 546,121 females. The reasons behind this drop in voter numbers are yet to be fully understood, but officials are likely to investigate the factors contributing to the deletions. This situation highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining accurate electoral records and ensuring that all eligible voters are accounted for as India approaches upcoming elections. The state’s electoral office is expected to address these discrepancies to enhance voter participation and engagement in the democratic process.
