Govt invokes ESMA to prioritise LPG production for domestic use as West Asia conflict escalates

In response to escalating tensions in West Asia, the Indian government has invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) to ensure prioritization of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production for domestic consumption. This move aims to safeguard essential gas supplies amid potential disruptions stemming from the regional conflict. The government has established a four-tier priority system for gas allocation, which will significantly limit supplies to lower-priority sectors in order to meet the vital demands of households and critical services. By implementing this order, authorities seek to stabilize the domestic LPG market and prevent shortages that could arise from international volatility. The decision underscores the government's commitment to maintaining energy security for its citizens, particularly during periods of geopolitical uncertainty. As the situation in West Asia develops, the Indian administration remains vigilant and prepared to adjust its energy policies to ensure that domestic needs are met effectively.
