Govt to soon introduce Rohith Vemula Act: CM

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced the introduction of the Rohith Vemula Act, aimed at combating caste-based discrimination in higher education institutions across the state. This initiative is named after Rohith Vemula, a Dalit student whose tragic suicide in 2016 brought national attention to the issues of caste discrimination and social justice within educational settings. The act seeks to create a more equitable environment for all students, ensuring that higher education is accessible and free from prejudice. In addition to the Rohith Vemula Act, the CM also shared plans for conducting student union elections, emphasizing the government's commitment to fostering democratic processes and student representation in educational institutions. This legislative move is seen as a significant step towards addressing systemic inequalities and promoting social justice in Karnataka's higher education landscape.
