Harsh summer with more heatwaves ahead across India, says IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding an impending heatwave across the country, indicating that while there may be a slight respite from high temperatures in March, the situation is expected to worsen thereafter. From March until May 2026, the IMD anticipates above-normal temperatures and an increase in the number of heatwave days that could affect various regions. This trend raises concerns about the impacts on health, agriculture, and water resources, especially as India grapples with the consequences of climate change. With the summer season approaching, citizens and authorities alike are urged to prepare for extreme weather conditions, which could exacerbate existing challenges related to heat stress and resource management. The IMD's predictions underscore the need for heightened awareness and proactive measures to mitigate the adverse effects of heatwaves in the coming months.
