‘Hungry, tired’: Allahabad HC judge reserves order after 3-hour overtime

Justice Subhash Vidyarthi of the Allahabad High Court faced challenging conditions during a recent hearing, which extended nearly three hours beyond the standard court hours. This extension was undertaken to meet a six-month deadline imposed by the Supreme Court for the resolution of the case at hand. However, after a prolonged session, Justice Vidyarthi expressed his physical discomfort, stating he was 'too hungry, tired, and physically incapacitated' to continue and ultimately decided to reserve the order. This situation highlights the pressures faced by the judiciary in adhering to strict timelines, as well as the importance of maintaining the well-being of judicial officers to ensure fair and thorough deliberations. As courts continue to grapple with backlogs and deadlines, the balance between timely justice and the health of those administering it remains a critical concern.
