India has 25,001 licensed pilots, civil aviation minister tells Lok Sabha

In a recent session of the Lok Sabha, India’s Civil Aviation Minister revealed that the country currently boasts 25,001 licensed pilots under the age of 65. This information highlights the growing pool of aviation professionals in India as the sector continues to expand. However, the government acknowledged that it does not maintain records regarding the number of unemployed pilots holding Commercial Pilot Licences (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot Licences (ATPL). The lack of data on unemployed pilots raises concerns about job opportunities in the aviation field, especially in light of recent challenges faced by the industry, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister's statement comes at a time when the aviation sector is gradually recovering, with increasing air travel demand and new airlines entering the market. Addressing issues such as pilot employment and training will be crucial for sustaining growth in Indian aviation, which is poised to become one of the largest in the world. Efforts to streamline pilot training programs and enhance job placement initiatives could further benefit the sector and its workforce.
