India Prepares Smartphone Export Incentives in a Boost for Apple

India is set to launch a new smartphone export incentive program aimed at enhancing its position in the global technology market, particularly benefiting major players like Apple. This initiative marks the second phase of the country's flagship mobile production strategy, shifting focus from merely increasing domestic output to promoting exports and local manufacturing. Unlike the existing Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which concludes on March 31 and primarily rewards domestic production, the forthcoming plan will provide financial incentives specifically tied to the volume of smartphones shipped abroad. This strategy is expected to attract foreign investment and encourage domestic companies to increase their export capabilities, thereby boosting the overall growth of India's tech sector. As global demand for smartphones continues to rise, this initiative could play a crucial role in positioning India as a key player in the international smartphone supply chain, potentially increasing its market share and creating more jobs in the process.
