India to get additional 114 Rafale jets as DAC clears proposals for ₹3.60 lakh crore

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) of India has approved a significant proposal for the procurement of 114 additional Rafale fighter jets, with an estimated budget of ₹3.60 lakh crore. This decision marks a major step in bolstering the Indian Air Force’s capabilities amidst regional security challenges. Notably, a substantial portion of these jets will be manufactured domestically, aligning with the government's Make in India initiative aimed at enhancing self-reliance in defense production. The move is seen as a strategic enhancement of air power, particularly in light of ongoing tensions in the region. The deal is expected to create numerous jobs and accelerate technological advancements in the Indian defense sector. The Indian Air Force currently operates a limited number of Rafale jets acquired from France, and this expansion is viewed as crucial for maintaining air superiority. The DAC's approval paves the way for negotiations with the French government and the manufacturer to finalize details of the deal, with an emphasis on indigenous production capabilities.
