J&K LG Distributes Compassionate Appointments to 50 Terror Victims' Families Under 'Sharansthli'

J&K LG Manoj Sinha distributed compassionate appointment letters to 50 terror victims' next of kin under the 'Sharansthli' initiative in Srinagar, with over 400 families covered so far and remaining cases to be reviewed in April.
'Sharansthli' — A Programme Built on Recognition
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha distributed compassionate appointment letters to 50 relatives of terror victims on Sunday at the Lok Bhawan auditorium in Srinagar. The programme, named "Sharansthli" (meaning "Support" or "Shelter"), is designed to help families whose loved ones were killed in terrorist attacks rebuild their lives through guaranteed employment in government service.
More Than 400 Families Already Covered
This latest round of appointments brings the total to over 400 terror victim families who have received similar letters under the initiative. The LG acknowledged the long wait these families had endured, describing the appointments as "justice, recognition and a new beginning" for those who had lived with grief and financial uncertainty for years.
He noted that some of the victims were merely children when tragedy struck their families — growing up without a parent, often in economic hardship. The administration had coordinated between police departments and administrative offices to identify and verify all remaining eligible cases.
Review of Pending Cases in April
Sinha indicated that not all eligible families have received letters yet, and that the remaining cases will be reviewed and processed in April 2026. The coordination between law enforcement and district administration is ongoing to ensure no family that qualifies is left out.
Zero Tolerance for Terror
The LG reaffirmed the government's zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism, pledging continued strict action against individuals and networks promoting violence in the region. He also highlighted recent achievements among J&K youth — including successful Union Public Service Commission selections and athletic victories — as evidence of the positive direction the region is moving in, contrasting it with the dark legacy terrorism has left on families like those receiving appointments on Sunday.
