Kolkata-Agartala via Dhaka bus service resumes after 18-month hiatus

The Kolkata-Agartala bus service, which connects Tripura's capital with West Bengal's capital via Dhaka, has resumed operations after an 18-month suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The service, operated by the Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC), officially restarted on March 1, 2023, providing a much-needed link for travelers between these regions. The bus covers a distance of approximately 550 kilometers, with a travel time of around 12 hours, including customs and immigration checks at the India-Bangladesh border. This service is expected to boost tourism and trade in the northeastern states, enhancing connectivity while promoting cultural exchanges. Authorities have implemented health protocols to ensure passenger safety during the ongoing pandemic, aiming to restore confidence in cross-border travel. The resumption of this bus service marks a significant step towards reviving normalcy in travel routes that were disrupted for nearly two years, reflecting the gradual reopening of borders and the importance of regional connectivity in India’s northeastern states.
