Most parts of India to see above-normal heatwave days between March and May: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that a significant portion of the country is expected to experience above-normal heatwave conditions from March to May this year. This forecast comes as India gears up for the summer months, which traditionally bring higher temperatures. Regions in northern and central India, including states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, are particularly at risk. The IMD attributes this unusual heat pattern to a combination of factors, including changing climatic conditions and reduced rainfall in certain areas. Experts are concerned about the potential impact on agriculture, water supply, and public health, especially in vulnerable communities. Historically, heatwaves in India can lead to severe consequences, including increased mortality rates and economic losses. As preparations are underway to cope with the impending heat, authorities are urged to implement measures to protect public health and ensure the availability of water resources during the peak summer months.
