Opt for PNG to reduce pressure on LPG, Centre tells public amid panic-booking

In light of recent panic-buying of LPG cylinders, the Indian government is encouraging citizens to opt for Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections as a viable alternative. An official from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas emphasized that transitioning to PNG could alleviate the increasing pressure on the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply chain. This appeal comes amid concerns regarding the sustainability of LPG supplies, particularly during peak demand periods. The government aims to promote the use of PNG, which is considered a cleaner and more efficient energy source, while simultaneously addressing the growing demand for LPG. By encouraging households to switch to PNG, the authorities hope to ensure a more stable energy supply and reduce reliance on traditional LPG cylinders, which have seen a surge in demand due to recent panic booking. The initiative aligns with India's broader goals of promoting cleaner energy options and enhancing energy security across the nation.
