Samsung Testing 12,000mAh, 18,000mAh Batteries With Dual Cell and Triple Cell Designs, Leaked Reports Show

Samsung is currently in the testing phase for high-capacity silicon-carbon smartphone batteries, with prototypes boasting capacities of 12,000mAh and 18,000mAh. Reports indicate that the 12,000mAh battery utilizes a dual-cell design, while the 18,000mAh variant incorporates a triple-cell structure. These advancements come as part of Samsung SDI's efforts to enhance battery management systems and cell stacking techniques. However, a more ambitious 20,000mAh prototype reportedly did not pass durability tests after approximately 960 charge cycles. Silicon-carbon technology is particularly notable for its ability to store significantly more energy compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries, potentially allowing for the production of slimmer smartphones equipped with much larger battery capacities. As smartphone manufacturers strive to meet consumer demands for longer battery life without compromising device thickness, Samsung's ongoing research in this area could mark a significant leap forward in mobile technology.
