SIR Done In 6 states, 68 Lakh Voters Deleted In Gujarat, Highest In Country

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has concluded in six states and Union Territories, revealing considerable alterations in voter registrations. Gujarat reported the highest number of deletions, with around 68 lakh voters removed from the electoral rolls. This revision process is part of a broader initiative by the Election Commission of India to ensure the accuracy and integrity of voter lists across the country. The SIR aims to update records following changes in demographics, addresses, and other relevant factors influencing voter eligibility. Alongside Gujarat, the electoral lists in other states have also undergone scrutiny, but the scale of deletions in Gujarat has raised concerns about electoral participation. This significant cleanup is intended to enhance the credibility of the electoral process as India prepares for upcoming elections, fostering a more transparent and reliable voting system for its citizens.
