TMC, AAP, BJP and more urge Election Commission to hold West Bengal elections in one or two phases

Political leaders from multiple parties, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have collectively urged the Election Commission of India to conduct the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections in one or two phases. This appeal was made during a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other election officials, where representatives from various parties, such as CPI(M), Congress, National People’s Party, and the Forward Bloc, were present. The leaders emphasized the need for a streamlined election process to ensure fairness and efficiency in what is expected to be a highly contested electoral battle. Given West Bengal's history of politically charged elections, the call for a phased approach is seen as a strategic move to manage voter turnout and security concerns effectively. The Election Commission is yet to announce the election schedule, but the discussions reflect a growing consensus among political entities on the importance of a well-organized electoral process in the state. As the political climate intensifies, the decision regarding the election phases will be crucial in shaping the upcoming political landscape in West Bengal.
