Tribal man forced into labour without pay for 3 decades in K’taka, 1 held

In a grave case of exploitation, police in Udupi district, Karnataka, have apprehended a woman for allegedly subjecting a tribal man to bonded labour for nearly three decades. The victim, belonging to a Scheduled Tribe community, was forced to work without pay in a village located in Kundapura taluk. This incident highlights the persistent issue of bonded labour in India, particularly affecting marginalized communities. Authorities are taking steps to address this form of human rights violation, which remains a significant challenge despite various legal frameworks aimed at eradicating such practices. The police's action marks an important step towards justice for the victim, who had endured almost thirty years of hardship. The case has drawn attention to the necessity for greater enforcement of laws protecting workers' rights and the urgent need for awareness programs to educate vulnerable populations about their rights and available legal recourse.
